LIS 568: Chatterpix

I love. Love. Chatterpix.
It is quick, easy, free, and engaging... perhaps best of all, it has a gazillion possibilities for its use!

Imagine you are teaching a class on biographies. You want each of your students to come up with a few sentences to describe the figure they are reading about. Simply download your (copyright free) image of the person (this is a GREAT opportunity to talk about what "labeled for reuse with modification" means, by the way) import it into the app, draw a line across her mouth, hit the mic icon, and speak.
Ta-da! You have put words into the mouth of your subject.

This Abe Lincoln clip took about three minutes,
from finding the image to downloading it onto my desktop!

There is a kids' version of the app in which there is no share feature, and it is easy enough that with some guidance even the youngest users can manipulate the App. The downside may include the fact that it is solely for use with Apple products, so unless you have access to iPhones, iPads, or iPod touch, you won't be able to access the magic. The company that develops Chatterpix, Duck Duck Moose, does have many Apps that are accessible through Google Play for Android devices, though, so perhaps it is on the horizon.

I will be checking out Blabberize and Voki to use for the same purposes across platforms and on desktops...
