LIS 568: Snow Day Blog Post

At a recent PD day, the school LMS presented Book Creator as a tool to use with students. In a group of educators teaching elementary, middle, and high school students, the ideas for how to use it in their classrooms were flying. My favorite came from the 2nd grade teacher, who was excited as she built her plan for it: in collaboration with the librarian, they would introduce the program to the students, who would use it to write their own stories. Her twist was that they would use the built-in voice-to-text feature, so that as they told their story, they could read the words--some words they would be unable to spell themselves!
Students can add sound, media including clip art and their own images via Google Drive, shapes, they can draw, of course they can add text… they can, it’s true, Create a Book. The books can then be published and shared, which adds to the authenticity of the project, and offers motivation for students to work hard; the finished product is one they will be proud of.
Book Creator is free up to 40 books, and that may sound like a lot until you get going… the possibilities are ENDLESS!
